Upcoming retreats and events
We typically hold two one-day retreats per year in the fall and spring and occasional weekend retreats, as well as talks and other events. If you have a suggestion for an event, please email us.
Spring 2024 one-day retreat, Saturday June 8
The retreat will be held in our usual practice space at Takoma Park Presbyterian Church and include periods of zazen, kinhin (walking meditation), and a brief service. A retreat is an excellent opportunity to intensify practice and concentration for a short time. Details, signup, etc. to come.
Tentative retreat schedule
Note: Participants should arrive by 8:15 am
8:30 – 8:40: Intro, opening.
8:40 – 11:30: Morning Service, one 40-minute sit, two 30-minute sits
11:40 – 1 pm: Lunch break
1 – 3:10: Two 40-minute sits, one 30-minute sit
3:10 – 3:30: Break
3:30 – 4;50: One 40-minute sit, one 30-minute sit
4:50 pm: Closing chants/bows
Fall 2024 weekend retreat
The retreat will be held at the Dayspring Silent Retreat Center in Germantown Maryland, just north of Washington, DC. It will be silent and will include many periods of seated meditation (zazen), short breaks, meals and rest periods. All meals are included in the event cost. Attendance at all zazen periods from 6:00am through 9:30pm is expected.
The facilities include a building with a large room that will be set up as the zendo and separate buildings with living quarters. All rooms are singles. There are separate wings for women and men. Vegetarian meals will be provided by Dayspring staff; retreat participants will help with dining room setup and meal cleanup.
