Location
Ka Shin Zendo practices at the Takoma Park Presbyterian Church, located at the corner of Tulip and Maple Avenues in Takoma Park. (For GPS purposes, the street address is 310 Tulip Avenue, Takoma Park, MD 20912. However, our entrance is on Maple; see below for directions to our space in the church.) This is a five-minute walk (2-3 blocks) from the TP Metro station. There is zoned, permitted on-street parking until 7 p.m on weekdays; open parking on weekends. There are also 1-hour daytime parking spaces on the Tulip side of the church that open up around 6 p.m. The Metro parking lot is free on weekends.
Entry
The zendo space is in the church library. To get there, face the church facade on Maple Ave. and enter through the wooden double doors to your left (see photo). Go up the stairs. Pass the Church Parlor. Enter the first door on the left after that, the library.
The building entry doors are usually kept locked. We open them to let people in before zazen starts and then again during 10-minute kinhin periods. If you arrive and no one is there, please wait – someone will open the door. If you're late, you will have to wait until the next available window to enter. (It's easy to leave, stroll around Takoma Park, and return.)
Times the door will be opened:
Mondays – before 6:30 p.m. and during kinhin: 7:10-7:20 and 8-8:10 p.m.
Saturdays – before 8:30 a.m. (and 8 a.m. on orientation days) and during kinhin: 9:05-9:15 a.m. (9-9:10 on orientation days)
Thanks for your patience. If you have any questions, please email us.
