Zen Buddhist Sangha of Washington, D.C.

To study the Buddha way is to study the self. To study the self is to forget the self. To forget the self is to be actualized by myriad things. When actualized by myriad things, your body and mind as well as the bodies and minds of others drop away. No trace of realization remains, and this no-trace continues endlessly. –Dogen
Ka Shin Zendo is a group of dedicated lay Zen practitioners founded in 1969. Our focus is zazen, the seated meditation at the core of Buddhist practice that aims to cultivate awareness and cut through delusion, awakening practitioners to the reality of the here and now.
We offer zazen twice weekly, weekend retreats and other events. For newcomers, a brief orientation (by appointment) takes place on the first Saturday of each month. We practice at Takoma Park Presbyterian Church at the corner of Maple and Tulip Streets, Takoma Park, MD. Please check our schedule, as we are open only during scheduled sitting and retreat times. If you have questions or would like additional information, please email us. To be added to our email list, please click here. You can also follow us on Facebook.

Virtual sitting via Zoom
Our normal in-person schedule is suspended for the time being. To support everyone's practice, we are offering group zazen via Zoom on Saturday mornings at 8:30 a.m. and Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Details can be found on our schedule page. We are continuing to offer orientations for newcomers on the first Saturday of the month, also on Zoom. Details here.
To join a group sit, please click on this link.
You do not need a Zoom account to participate. Please join before sitting begins, and wait until a break to leave. Ideally, try to position your laptop camera, tablet, or phone so that it captures some of your sitting posture, not just your face. You may want to place it to the side or out of your direct field of vision during zazen. Please mute your microphone during sitting periods and when reciting sutras/vows (those can be found on this page, or downloaded from this page).
We wish you well during this difficult time and look forward to continuing to sit with you.
